With the staging of the play “Zafra“, by the Ballet National Folk Dominicanhe Ministry of Culture inaugurated this Sunday the Festival National of Theater 2024.

The Carlos Piantini room of the Theater National Eduardo Brito raised the curtain to begin the most important festival of the tdominican theaterwhich will run until October 30.

In this edition, the event is dedicated in a special way to lighting technology and theater production Lillyanna Diaz.

The event was headed by the Minister of CultureMilagros Germán, who was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Creativity and Artistic Training, Giovanny Cruz, and others officials of the institution.

Minister Germán stated that, with the celebration of the event, the Ministry of Culture He rigorously complies with his management’s commitment to invest in the development of the arts in the country.

Likewise, he pointed out that the Republic Dominican has a rich theatrical tradition, which has been present throughout its history, and invited the public to participate in the VIII Festival National of Theaterhighlighting how this artistic manifestation has been renewed to help understand new times.

For his part, Vice Minister Giovanny Cruz highlighted the rigor applied in the selection of the productions, as well as the achievements reached in the pedagogical field, the result of the training program of the Pre-inaugural Cycle of FENATE 2024.

“This year we have achieved fascinating results with our teachings in costumes, scenography, musicalization, makeup, management of the actor’s body, lighting engineering, management of the actor in movie camera and film production, in addition to the fact that we have managed to elevate the workshops to the category of courses,” said the official.

Tribute

Prior to the presentation of “Zafra“, tribute was paid to Lillyanna Díaz, to whom this edition of the FENATEin recognition of his outstanding career and valuable contributions to the country’s performing arts.

Minister Germán and Vice Minister Cruz presented a plaque of recognition to the honored in the presence of their family, friends and colleagues in the theater field.

The veteran theater producer thanked the Ministry of Culture for recognizing her career by honoring her with this distinguished recognition at such an important festival.

Programming

  • FENATE 2024 offers programming with a wide variety of genres, monologues for adults, comedies, children’s productions and dance shows, with tickets available for a price of RD$200.
  • The public is invited to enjoy 21 theatrical productions, presented by 20 national companies, and more than 350 artists on stage.

Scenarios

The performances will take place in the Carlos Piantini and Ravelo rooms, in the Theater National Eduardo Brito; Máximo Avilés Blonda and La Dramática, at the Palace of Fine Arts; Manuel Rueda, in the Plaza del Conservatorio; Cristóbal de Llerena, in Casa de Theater; Monina Solá, at the Narciso González Cultural Center, and at the Theater Thalassa.

The festival will conclude with the presentation of “Cecilia B” in the Máximo Avilés Blonda room, produced by the National Theater Company, directed by Fausto Rojas, which pays tribute to the great female characters of dramatic literature.

About the work “Zafra

Zafra“, under the direction of Maritza Reyes and the original idea of ​​Hannover Regús, is a show that explores the universe of the sugar industry in the Republic Dominican as a space of exploitation, resistance and corporal-aesthetic expression of the sugarcane growers and their families, their main victims.

The piece immerses the viewer in a journey from colonial history to the present day, with cane and sugar as reference points.
