Delta Air Lines is expanding its free, fast Wi-Fi service globally, with an initial focus on long-haul international Flights equipped with the technology. Viasat. This deployment, supported by T-Mobileis part of the airline’s goal of offering free Wi-Fi across its entire global fleet.

Currently, more than 90% of Delta’s domestic fleet already has this connectivity, and most customers are expected to have access to the service by the end of 2024.

Free Wi-Fi is being rolled out gradually on widebody aircraft, with plans to expand to new routes as service stabilizes. Unlike the 2022 domestic rollout, international access will not initially require a SkyMiles login. By the end of 2024, all Viasat-equipped aircraft will offer the Delta Sync personalized Wi-Fi experience, accessible with a SkyMiles membership.

In July, Delta had already introduced free Wi-Fi on Flights to and from France, and has a rolling schedule to expand this service to other countries and regions, with full deployment planned for mid- to late 2025:

  • August 2024: United Kingdom, Germany, Netherlands, Spain and Italy.
  • September 2024: Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland.
  • October 2024: South America and Hawaii.
  • December 2024/January 2025: Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal.
  • Mid-late 2025: Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

During this transition period, some aircraft will still offer paid Wi-Fi through Intelsat until additional satellites are installed to ensure full coverage. To stay informed about Wi-Fi availability on their Flights, passengers can check delta.com, check notifications on the Delta app or listen to in-Flight announcements, according to Fly News.
