With the support of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of the United States Department of Energy (DOE) and its pilot program, hotels in Quintana Roo will be able to move towards an energy transition.
This program will be aimed at all establishments that offer lodging services and will allow “greater production of clean energy, more efficient use and a reduction in Greenhouse Gas emissions in hotels in the Mexican Caribbean,” as stated. Yepse.
DOE will provide technical support to hotels regardless of their category by carrying out an energy evaluation of the buildings. Likewise, it includes the issuance of recommendations with different commitment approaches, the evaluation of expected economic and energy savings and an estimate of emissions reduction.
US DOE will offer training to management and operational staff for development, provide the technical capabilities necessary to secure financing. Hotels will have to be registered in the State Tourism Registry (Retur-Q) of 2024, have energy billing for at least 12 consecutive months and complete the registration form.
As reported REPORTUR.mxToni Chaves, president of the Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM), recently expressed his concern about the electrical blackouts that have occurred in Mexico due to the lack of capacity to generate electrical energy, as much hotter months are coming. (Riviera Maya: hoteliers are worried about power outages in Mexico).
“It’s been a very hot summer. We saw on the news, nationally, there was a lack of power generation across the country. It worries us because very hot months are coming,” Chaves said at the time.
