For the hurricane season, Quintana Roo hoteliers have signed 45 agreements with schools to be used as shelters for tourists. They would have a total of around 90 shelters that they have already handed over to the authorities for greater coordination.
Jesús Almaguer Salazar, president of the Hotel Association of Cancún, Puerto Morelos and Isla Mujeres, said that the hotels have 90 temporary shelters, referring to the schools that in some cases share several hotels and that five hotels have their own shelters where They would take tourists, which will protect them in any situation.
“We have a prevention strategy that we have learned over the years and various hurricanes. Some even function as self-shelters,” Almaguer noted, as reported by Sipse.
Carlos Gorocica Moreno, Secretary of Education, said that the hotels had signed 42 agreements with schools in Cancun and 3 agreements in Playa del Carmen as of the end of May. Likewise, Gorocica pointed out that in the coming days more agreements could be added.
The Ministry of Tourism (Sedetur) has the Guest Locator application available, which is put into operation during the hurricane season. However, Hotel associations have lists of guests for each Hotel and where they will be located.
