Since the beginning of the massive student protests against Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip, which have shaken universities across the United States, the Police have arrested almost 2,200 protesters, the AP reported this Friday.
According to the media’s data, since April 18, there have been at least 56 incidents in which arrests were made at 43 universities. Police reportedly used riot gear, tactical vehicles and stun grenades in some cases to clear camps set up by protesters near campuses and expel those who had barricaded themselves in buildings.
The arrests came as hundreds of protesters demanding that their universities stop supporting Israel refused orders to leave campuses, barricaded themselves in buildings and resisted police officers.
